Summary

A successful office furniture company wanted to expand its market presence by offering classic mid-century modern design furniture online. Matthew Wilson developed the business model, brand image, selected products, sourced and selected the store software, established the company’s backoffice functions and developed the company’s go-to-market strategy, including advertising and promotion.

Mr. Wilson implemented the online store software and created a fully custom front end. A programmer was contracted to develop several custom plug-ins to manage product selection options and Mr. Wilson integrated these with design elements created in-house. The website was optimized for search engines, specifically Google, with custom upload scripts developed to aid in indexing and product presentation strategies designed to increase the visibility of the site to indexers.

Upon development and launch of the website, Mr. Wilson developed an online marketing program focused on the three largest search engines – Google, Yahoo and MSN. This campaign paired traditional strategies (Ad Words) with viral marketing techniques (blog postings, guest articles, craigslist postings, etc.) The site achieved $45,000 in revenue the first month after launching.
